Fourteenth Annual Stars of Life Dinner

The Pennsylvania EMS Provider Foundation will be hosting the Fourteenth Annual Stars of Life Dinner on Sunday, September 12, 2021. The function, a fundraiser for the Foundation, will be held at the Best Western Premier Hotel & Conference Center in Harrisburg beginning at 6:00 pm.

Stars of Life Recognition:

These individuals, dedicated to the public they serve, are often forgotten in our day to day lives until the time they are needed. Working long hours in a profession that offers little pay has caused young men and women to no longer choose EMS as a career choice. Newspaper articles from around the country reflect the crisis in EMS staffing showing that recruitment and retention for this important, essential service has become a major concern for the future. The Ambulance Association of Pennsylvania identified the need to recognize and retain our current providers as well as to recruit new providers to insure the future of EMS in Pennsylvania. The first annual event was a way to honor our current providers and to begin the formation of a Foundation, now known as the PA EMS Provider Foundation.

Retention:

Our legislature, through passage of tax incentives and other SR6 recommendations, have recognized the importance of emergency services and the heroic efforts of this industry. This dinner is an opportunity for every provider in Pennsylvania to honor their “heroes” for a star of life award.  In addition, through fundraising efforts and the support of our sponsors and EMS community, we will be awarding five grants to EMTs who will be continuing their education and career to become Paramedics.

Recruitment:

The Foundation was started to specifically address recruitment issues. The specific mission and purpose “is to serve the Pennsylvania emergency medical services community, to ensure public confidence in emergency medical services, to develop the next generation of emergency medical services providers, educate the public of their services and generally to further the cause of Pennsylvania emergency medical services through education, outreach and philanthropy. The Foundation will support the welfare of Pennsylvania emergency medical services providers and will serve other proper functions of a charitable, public foundation as needed.”

Keynote Speaker:


Doug Wolfberg

Doug Wolfberg is a founding partner of Page, Wolfberg & Wirth, the nation’s leading EMS law firm.  A lifelong Pennsylvanian, he was a longtime EMS provider and also served as a regional EMS director and staff member at the PA Emergency Health Services Council prior to law school. Doug is an avid bicyclist and an annual participant in the PA EMS Memorial Bike Ride and the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride.

Room rate is $99.95 (plus taxes). Reservations can be made by calling 717-561-2800 and identifying yourself as part of the Ambulance Association of Pennsylvania event. Deadline for reservations is August 23, 2021, however, the hotel may honor the $99.95 room rate as long as rooms are available.

You must pre-register for this event. Deadline for reservations is August 31, 2021. Due to the nature of the event, we will not be able to accept walk-ins. Seating will be assigned and your tickets will be available at the door. If you would like to be seated with providers from your area, please indicate the company name on the registration form. Your reservation will include tickets to the event (a cash bar will be available all evening).

Cancellations:

Cancellations made prior to August 31, 2021 will be subject to a $25.00 administrative fee. No refunds will be made for cancellations after August 31, 2021.
